PSYCH-K® Frequently Asked Questions

What is PSYCH-K®?

PSYCH-K® is a non-invasive, interactive set of processes which support subconscious belief change. These processes are referred to as “PSYCH-K® balances”. The PSYCH-K® balances are a means to work with the subconscious mind to re-write its subconscious programmes – transforming limiting programmes with enhancing programmes.

Why is PSYCH-K® called PSYCH-K®?

PSYCH-K® means “Mind-Key” – referring to the PSYCH-K® method being a key to your mind (and more broadly a key to your mind, soul or spirit). The term “psych” is not used as an abbreviation for “psychology” within PSYCH-K®, but rather as a reference to the term “psyche” which refer to “mind”, “soul” or “spirit”.

How does PSYCH-K® work?

PSYCH-K®, through its PSYCH-K® balances, creates a receptive “whole-brain state”, i.e. both left and right hemispheres of the brain being connected and working together, that reduces unwanted resistance to change in the subconscious mind.

In this receptive state, PSYCH-K® enables the writing of new life-enhancing goals/ beliefs to the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind can then work with these new goals/ beliefs in the background (beyond conscious awareness) to support new outcomes in life in alignment with these goals/ beliefs.

What is a PSYCH-K® balance?

A PSYCH-K® Balance is a process which creates  balanced communication between both the left and right hemispheres of the cerebral cortex of the brain, for the purpose of  creating a receptive “whole-brain state”. A PSYCH-K® process can take anywhere from 2 minutes to approximately 15 minutes in time (although at times could be longer).

The different balances can involve simple body movements or a specific body posture, which promote both hemispheres coming into alignment and working together. The balance will have a goal, either general or specific, that the individual has chosen for the balance, and the purpose of the balance will be to work with the subconscious mind with respect to this goal.

How was PSYCH-K® developed/ did it begin?

PSYCH-K® was originated in 1988 by Rob Williams. It was developed as a response to Rob’s frustration that typical counselling techniques, which rely almost exclusively on “insight” and “motivation,” seldom create real and lasting changes.

Rob’s  background in both business and psychotherapy creates a results-oriented approach to personal change. PSYCH-K® was inspired by and incorporates a variety of processes, some contemporary and some ancient.

Who can benefit from PSYCH-K®?

Anyone can benefit from PSYCH-K® - it is a multi-functional, multi-disciplinary set of processes to aid individuals in achieving their goals in life. This can be goals in your personal life, your relationships, your work, your spiritual life.

The application of the PSYCH-K® principles, philosophy, and methodology, is applicable to achieving a wide variety of goals, depending on one’s personal desires.

Overall, PSYCH-K® helps individuals to consciously and subconsciously re-perceive themselves, their circumstances, and their personal potential, in order to lead a happier and more satisfying life.

What happens in a PSYCH-K® session?

In a typical PSYCH-K® session, a PSYCH-K® Facilitator works with the individual, often referred to as the "Partner" reflecting the fact that PSYCH-K is a "do with" modality and not a "do to" modality.

The Partner brings an area where he/ she is seeking change in their life to the session. The Facilitator and Partner start by discussing this area of change - how is it now for the Partner and how the Partner wants it to be instead. Note that the words and direction of this conversation are driven by the subconscious in choice of words and the subconscious connection of ideas through the conversation.

Once the Facilitator and Partner have clarity on how the Partner wants this area of their life to change, the Facilitator then facilitates PSYCH-K® balance processes with the Partner which encourage a ‘whole-brain state’ in the Partner and enable the Partner to engage their subconscious with the new reality they want to create. These processes support the removal of energy blockages, new flows of energy within the Partner, and the establishment of new beliefs within their subconscious mind.

The PSYCH-K® processes utilise “muscle-testing” which enables clear communication with the Partner's subconscious. For online sessions, the Facilitator carries out the muscle-testing on behalf of the Partner and communicates the results to the Partner during the session. Muscle-testing utilises the muscle-response (any muscle, but often arm, finger, eyelid muscles are good muscles to test)  to consciously held statements that the Partner holds. The subconscious processing while holding the statement impacts the muscle tension, providing a clear “yes/no” or “like/dislike” response.

Often the PSYCH-K® processes can lead to emotional, mental, physical responses which indicate the change in subconscious that is sought. Even if no obvious response, the processes result in a “whole-brain state” supportive of the change.

Before the end of the session, the Facilitator will ask the Partner to identify 2 or 3 action steps that he/ she will seek to complete in the next week or two. These actions steps are in relation to the area of change that the Partner has been working on in the session. The goal of the action steps is to step out in the area of change and to see how he/ she is supported by the subconscious work he/ she has done through the PSYCH-K® session.
